To address the absence of a high school within its city limits, the growing community of Maple Valley embarked on the development of the new Tahoma High School and Regional Learning Center. This project aimed to not only to fulfill the educational needs of the community, but to also to provide ample public-use spaces. Second Nature partner Erik Sweet, played an integral role as a trusted partner to the Tahoma School District throughout the process.
With a capacity to accommodate 2,400 students, the sprawling campus of the new Tahoma High School and Regional Learning Center spans an impressive 315,000 square feet on 35 acres. To further enhance the new facility, an extensive athletics complex was designed to accommodate the needs of the high school and function with the adjacent and adjoining Summit Park. Notably the complex added synthetic turf and new Musco lighting technology to all fields to extend the seasonal usage, address weather issues and expand community opportunities. Erik was the lead sports field consultant and his work played a pivotal role in the project, providing expertise in sports field design, athletic fields lighting, and integrated storm water design. Erik’s efforts helped bring this exceptional educational facility to fruition..
Final design included a new all-weather track and field, synthetic softball, baseball, and soccer fields (located inside the new track geometry), bleacher seating for 1,800, tennis courts, and green space. All the athletic fields include storm water was designed below the track and field area.
